Dallas Lutheran School was impacted by a tornado in 2019 damaging several existing classrooms. The proposed classrooms surround the main quad courtyard, creating visual connections to the outdoor and nature. The courtyards are designed as spaces for learning and gathering, forming the heart of the school.

The landscape design of these spaces will demonstrate rainwater cycle and low-impact design principles. Rainwater harvesting tanks collecting roof water for irrigation through rain chains, which overflow into bioswale, where it will filter and absorb before any excess water is released into the stormwater system. This approach will reduce impact on the city’s downstream stormwater system, while creating awareness of the water cycle and providing learning opportunities for students.

Native and adaptive Texas plant palette will attract pollinators and provide seasonal color and texture throughout the year.
